Ground Casualty

SGT Ray B. Browne was a Special Forces qualified medical NCO assigned to Detachment A-416 (My Dien II), D Company, 5th Special Forces Group, U.S. Army Special Forces Vietnam, Military Assistance Advisory Group, Vietnam (MAAGV). On New Year’s Day 1964, SGT Browne was inspecting the undercarriage of a military vehicle while he had a cartridge belt on with a chemical (white phosphorus) grenade attached. The pin of the grenade was accidently pulled and grenade exploded. SGT Browne was severely burned and was medically evacuated to a U.S. Army military hospital in the Philippines. He died there January 16, 1964, as a result of heart failure due to septicemia (blood poisoning) and third-degree burns. [Taken from coffeltdatabase.org]

Grateful Americans donate Christmas Wreaths to place upon the gravesites of Fallen Heroes at Arlington National Cemetery. During Christmastime 2015, tens of thousands of volunteers decorated 240,815 gravesites at Arlington – our nation’s most hallowed National Cemetery. This is a picture of the gravesite of SGT Ray B. Browne from “Wreaths Across America 2015,” one of Alexandria’s 67 Vietnam War Fallen Heroes who is also remembered with his name chiseled into stone at the Captain Rocky Versace Plaza and Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
