To the parents of...

Willie Brown was in "India Co. 3rd. Bn. 26th Marines, 1st Platoon, 2nd. Squad. His best friend at the time was a guy named "lewis". I remember the day well, it was my birthday, the 23rd. of April, 1969, it rained, it hailed, it was a strange day. It was also my day to walk point and until that day the man who walked point was the man who was shot or killed. On April 23rd. that would all change. Instead of the point man being shot the two men in back of the point were shot. This time it was Willie Brown and Rick Bovia, Bovia survived. I am sorry there was nothing anyone of us could have done to save the life of your son. He was a good Marine and a good friend. Willie was black and I was white...it made no difference, we were Marines and we looked after each other. Semper Fi Marine, Rest in Peace...
