Remembering An American Hero

Dear CPL John Randall Zimmerman, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

Events of that day.....

To the family and friends of John, who may have wonder what happened that day, I am providing a link to the 2/14 Infantry's web site, that has archived copies of the 25th Inf Divisions weekly newspaper, which had the activities of that day as its lead story in the September 8, 1969 issue. As could be expected from a military publication, no mention is made of the 2 casualties we suffered on that day, of which John was one. Rest assured that both he and William Ridge are not forgotten. http://www.25thida.org/TLN/tln4-36.htm
