Thank You

Dear Cpl Jimmy Youngblood, Thank you for your service as a Field Artillery Radar Operator. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Lent has begun. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance, and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

My brother was beside him when he died at Con Thien

Cpl Max Jimmerson, my brother was also from Birmingham. He suffered severe shrapnel wounds while talking with another Marine who was also from Birmingham. This happened on 18 November 1967. The other Marine was killed. These are my recollections of news that my dad received in the first weeks after we were notified of his wounds. It was someone that he had just met. When technology provided search capabilities, I searched and found the Marine who died at Con Thien on that day was Jimmy Dean Youngblood. I visited him at the Wall 20 years ago and I’m pleased to be able to see his photo and express my respects to him and to those who loved him.

We had good times at Lejeune and in Pendleton, not to mention all the evenings in Oceanside and south of the border in Tijuana. It was much different across the pond JD, but it was what it was. Always in my thoughts, buddy. We were so young. Semper Fi.
