YOU STEPPED UP
To Dorothy who commented on 1.5.2019 that Corporal Yarbrough didn’t look like a willing participant to enlist. A quick search on google shows the US “drafted” 2.2 million men between 1964 and 1973. Of that amount only 42,633 were drafted into the Marine Corps. There are two websites that I know of that show whether these fallen heroes were draftees or not are: “www.thewall-usa.com" and “www.coffeltdatabase.org". I searched for Corporal Yarbrough and found that he was NOT a draftee, meaning he WAS a willing participant to enlist. True, he may have received a draft notice and enlisted before being drafted as many others who enlisted in the Air Force or the Navy. This brave warrior enlisted in the Marine Corps.
I attribute that frightened and terror-stricken look on his face to being a fresh Recruit at Parris Island in 1966. I hear that was no picnic back then, and I’m sure you can find hundreds of similar expressions on the faces of the brave young men and women there today. But they, like Corporal Yarbrough, ARE willing participants who stepped up.
