Russ was a good friend while in Hospital Corps School. I was also w/ him when he died.

Russ & I went out many nights while in Corps School. He was a pretty good artist and drew an excellent 'Caduceus' on my seabag. My company Foxtrot were sent in to assist his Company Hotel 3/5.. As a Corpsman I still started going to the wounded. My 1st. I got to was Russ who was draped over another marine. Both were diseased. It appeared Russ had covered the marine attempting to protect him. I went on and treated many other casualties. Shortly after we got there an Air Force "Puff" Guship came in to support us. The Puffs continued protecting us all night. They gave us the opportunity to Medevac the numerous wounded and dead.
