Tribute to Sacrifice

As a college student in the late 60's I applied for a POW Bracelet and received a strip of metal bearing the inscription, "Capt. Murray Wortham 12-30-67". I wore that bracelet until the war ended thinking everyday of the person that bracelet represented. I never knew the fate of Capt. Wortham until I came across the Traveling Wall in the Chicagoland area. I remembered the name I wore around my wrist for those many years and wondered if he was on the wall. When I found his engraving I remember reaching out, touching his name and crying. I still have the bracelet- I have shown it to my children and have tried to explain the tragedies of war and reasons why they must not be repeated. My condolences to his family and my reassurances that his life and sacrifice did make a difference.

have his name on a POW bracelet

I applied for a POW bracelet in 1968, and was given one with Capt. Wortham's name. I still have it...and think of his family when I come across the bracelet in a drawer. I'm sorry his loss was necessary, and appreciate his family's feeling, as I suffered a family loss, as well.
