Wayne Michael Wilson's and Erskine Jay Olliver's Deaths on Hill 452.

To the reviewers; BRBRI thought I would let you know that the statement that Wayne Michael Wilson died in Quang Nam Province is inaccurate. He died in Quang Tri Province on the same hill that Erskine Jay Oliver, Michael Montigo, and Rudolph Trevino died on.BRBRFor your information.BRBRWayne Michael Wilson and Erskine Jay Oliver were good friends. They died within a few hours of each other on Hill 452 south of Route 9 near the DMZ while serving with Company M, 3rd Bn9th Marines.BRBRI was within yards of Erskine Jay Oliver (Ollie) when he was killed by an enemy grenade, and my fire team crawled out to set up around his body in order to recover it. Later, Ollie was wrapped in a poncho and I assisted in carrying him back up the hill to the perimeter occupied by the rest of the Company. As we approached the perimeter we were met by Cpl. Wayne Michael Wilson, a close friend of Ollie's. Mike Wilson had learned via radio transmissions that Ollie had been killed and had left the perimeter to come down and meet us. He asked me if that was Ollie we were carrying. I said it was and he asked if he could help carry him. I said yes and Mike took my place on the right, rear corner of the litter we were using to carry Ollie's body. I went on up the hill to the Company perimeter while Mike and the others followed with Ollie's body. Minutes later, Mike Wilson was killed when NVA troops who had been following us back up the hill arrived and opened fire from the jungle behind us.BRBRIn October 1996 I returned to Vietnam and traveled along Route 9 to Khe Sanh. Hill 452 would have normally been visible from Route 9 but rain and fog limited our vision to only a few hundred yards. I'm hopeful to get a glimpse of Hill 452 during my next trip back to Vietnam.BRBRUPDATE. My wife and I went back to Vietnam in May 2000 and walked Route 9 from the 'Rockpile', through the former location of 'Vandegrift Combat Base', to the river at Ca Lu. Further along Route 9 toward Khe Sanh, Hill 452 was clearly visible.BRBRMichael G. [email protected]

Always enjoyed bus rides to Beaver High

Mike I visited the Memorial but could not locate your name. Glad I looked here, I have been worried for years why your name was not on the wall.
I will locate you next time.

Thanks Mike!!

There were several things that I never thanked you for and I am sure you know what they are. Wish you were here so we could flash around in your ol' R/T again. Thanks again Mike. You are truly missed.
