Thank You

Dear Sp4 Richard Whyte, Thank you for your service as a Combat Engineer. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is the 7th Day of Christmas, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance, and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

A Dear Friend

I was in Base Camp the night Whitey was killed and spent a lot of time with him before. He was one of the kindest and gentlest people I met over there and it was a crushing blow when he was killed. We had been in a ferocious firefight that night and a mortar landed at his feet. I will always treasure our friendship and have never forgotten him and never will. Rest in peace, Brother.

Have Never Forgotten You

Richard and I hung out together at Duc Pho. I was with the Medical Company there and because Richard and I were from SD and we had met before we came in the Army, we hung out on our down time. It really hurt when I heard he had passed. My buddies knew we hung out and so they came and let me know. Richard has never left my memory, a lot of memories have disappeared but not my memory of Richard. He will always hold a special place in my heart. Peace Brother!!

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 Richard Alan Whyte, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
