honoring you.....

War drew us from our homeland
In the sunlit springtime of our youth.
Those who did not come back alive remain
in perpetual springtime -- forever young --
And a part of them is with us always.

Misadventure - Friendly fire

PFC Richard K. Wells was an infantryman serving with E Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Infantry, 199th Infantry Brigade. Part of the time he was deployed in the field, PFC Wells served as the company commander’s radio operator. At approximately 10:44 AM on June 20, 1967, E Company was set up in a rice paddy four miles east of Can Giuoc in Long An Province, RVN, preparing for a troop lift when an artillery round fired by a friendly force impacted near their position. Ten Americans, including Wells, plus four Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) soldiers were wounded in the incident. Six of the U.S. and all four ARVN’s were medivacked to the 24th Evacuation Hospital in Long Binh where Wells and one of the Vietnamese were dead on arrival. My Uncle, My Hero

Rick, I remember like it was yesterday, Wade and I helping you pack up after your leave, so you could go to Vietnam Nam. I remember everyone gathered at the house when Grandma read the letter from the Army. I remember you every day Uncle Rick. Miss you.
