A Hero

The definition of hero as a man or boy of great courage, spirit, etc., especially one who has undergone great danger or difficulty, can be used to describe the men behind the names on this wall. I am from Gridley High School in the small town of Gridley, IL. I am doing this remembrance as a class project. I have found that of all the brave men that have given there lives in the Vietnam War I relate the most with those who are youngest. Walter was only 18 years old. I just turned 18 two days ago so it is easy for me to put myself in his shoes. When I defined a hero I think that men like Walter are completely deserving of that title and our respect. In my eyes he gave up more than most other soldiers. He gave up his future so that we could have one. He was not able to experience having a family or career. God bless you Walter. You will be forever remembered.
