Fox Co, 2nd Bn, 9th Mar Comrade in Arms

It's been nearly 49 years since you came to the unit and we formed a close friendship.
I was amazed when you told me you went to school with one of my cousins in Charlottesville Virginia, who at the time, I had not met. Through the rain and the mud, we would find the time to reminisce and talk about how great it would be and how we would get together once we rotated and got back to the world.
Those dreams were shattered when one of our comrades walking point stepped on a Booby trapped mortar round. As I continue to deal with PTSD,
I will NEVER forget you and the sacrifice you made for your Country.

Semper Fi!!!

Not Forgotten

Doug, want you to know you are not forgotten, you were my classmate, friend and Vietnam brother; want you to know that you have your name on two other memorials, the Dogwood Vietnam Memorial in Charlottesville and the Vietnam War Foundation Memorial walk in Ruckersville, VA. In 2014 during the re-dedication of the oldest Vietnam War Memorial in Nation in Charlottesville it was asked if there was anyone that would stand when your name was called....I was honored to do so and salute you.
"Rest Easy" my brother. Bill Fields
I would love to have your family contact me.
