I remember you were big on running and was on the track & cross country. I too watch some of your practices, always had a smile and were always upbeat. Danny was a good friend.
Danny and I were as close as brothers. We grew up in the same neighborhood and hung out together. Danny was the most competitive person I ever knew. He would succeed on pure will power at whatever he did. I always wondered what he would have become, if he had survived Viet Nam. I miss him constantly.

Alegre the best of the best
Daniel was my fellow platoon sergeant in Vietnam when he was killed at the end of February 1970. I miss him to this day because he was so cheerful, a competent soldier and a good leader. I hope to meet his family and tell them what an important person he was to our platoon. I never was allowed to send the letter that I wrote after he died. The army thought it would be inappropriate. I think his family was aware of what a special human being he was. Despite being soft-spoken he was a warrior and talk to me a lot especially as a noncommissioned officer. A wonderful human being
I served with Daniel Allegre when we were both in the 3rd Brigade of the 82nd Airborne. He was one of the best human beings I have known and I will never forget him.
