One of The Greatest Guys I met In Vietnam

I remember “Gregg” from Vietnam he was really a great guy, he was the person that convinced me that I needed more math knowledge in my life. During April 1967 we worked loading choppers on the flight line, at the time we were with India 3/7 a few weeks later I was wounded while on patrol on my return to our company Our First Sgt. advised me that Gregg had been shot. That was as sad as any day in my life up to that point. Semper Fi to a great Friend 10/10/17

Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL Gregory Jerome Vandewalle, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter

YOUR BABY SIS' ADORES YOU

I have your letters with all the love you sent to me and I to you, even being only 5 years old. You called me a "little stinker" and gave me a T-shirt with a skunk on it. I still picture you shining brass and polishing shoes for ROTC. MY HERO GREG! I AM SO PROUD OF THE MAN YOU WERE.
I know you wanted a "little girl just like me someday", and I have no doubt that you have been my guardian angel ever since you went to heaven. I miss you and all the love that you and I shared. I used to ask God why I had to lose you, but now as an adult, I thank God for placing me in the same family and feel honored to have known and loved you for the 5 first years of my life. You were special and God needed you to make his home more beautiful and complete.I could not understand that at the time.Everyone was so sad, especially Mama. You are forever in my heart and I will NEVER forget you. Thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice for God and country, the USA, SEMPER FI, BRO!
P.S. Awesome poem you wrote- THE WORLD'S BEST WAR MACHINE, A UNITED STATES MARINE! I'm glad that you have not had to suffer like so many of your comrades who were subjected to illness and psychological warfare. You are now with Mama and Daddy and someday will shall all be together again. REST IN PEACE MY LOVING MARINE BROTHER!
