YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!

Dear Specialist 4 Van Winkle ~ You Are Not Forgotten!
This is the 3rd year, on the anniversary of your passing, that I ran a mile with you in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in Peace, Dear Brother.

Each year since September 2015, at the annual 5th Division Army reunion, members of the Society of the Fifth Division, U.S Army remember the 514 soldiers from the 1st Brigade, 5th Division, who were Killed in Action in Vietnam. You are among the soldiers remembered. You Are Not Forgotten!

My Hero

When I was a freshman baseball player at PVHS, Hatchy was the starting varsity 2nd baseman. When I was the only freshman assigned a locker in the varsity section, for 2 weeks someone tried to stuff this skinny freshman into his locker everyday. My hero then told his oversized teammates, "He's taken everything you've thrown at him, now leave him alone." From that day on, I was accepted as an equal by all of them. I cry as I type this the same as I cried at his wake 53 years ago in 1969. He was one of the finest that ever came from New Jersey.

Thank You

Dear Sp4 Harold Van Winkle, Thank you for your service as a Infantryman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Today is the last full day of summer. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it still needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
