Final Mission of PFC Edward D. Ulman

PFC Edward D. Ulman was an Airborne-qualified infantryman serving with Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC), 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade. On April 20, 1968, Ulman was with his unit on a combat mission in Binh Dinh Province, RVN, when he was hit by hostile sniper fire. He was fatally injured in the incident. I was there with D company the day he died.

I got to know this man in training , jump school, and served in same squad at times with him. Always remember his humor , his backwards helmet, and stories of the neighborhood he grew up in Flint. I have only seen two people I served with in nam but I remember all of them especially this one.I visited the wall in 80s and his name was first of many I looked up.

I was there

I served with this man with D 2/503rd and went through a bunch of training with him also. I will always remember his humor , his always wearing his helmet backwards, his blooper, we dug a lot of holes together and I once wrote a short story about his neighborhood in Flint as I heard about it so much I felt I had been there.
