Sgt. Charles Wayne Tuberville Memorial Highway

On October 19, 2014 the family and friends of Sergeant Tuberville dedicated the “Charles Wayne Tuberville Memorial Highway” (County Road 17 or the Claiborne Lock and Dam Road). It is a 5 mile section of of highway that Wayne travelled every day on his way to school and to see friends. It is the road that he travelled the day he left bound for Vietnam and it is the road that brought him back. It took 43 years and 24 days for Wayne to receive visible hometown recognition. Ronnie Philen welcomed, thanked everyone, and spoke about Wayne. County Commissioner Billy Ghee read the Resolution naming the highway. Sergeant Major Kenneth Pickering (USMC RET) of the Marine Security Guard spoke of the dedication, bravery, and sacrifice of Sergeant Tuberville. Edward Philen unveiled the sign as members of the VFW rendered honors. The dedication is a reminder that friends and family do not forget. A grateful hometown thanks Sergeant Charles Wayne Tuberville for his service and sacrifice.

A beautiful memorial service and dinner followed at Eureka Baptist Church. An offering was taken to be given to The Alabama Baptist Children’s Home in memory of Sergeant Charles Wayne Tuberville. If you would like to contribute to this offering, send your gift to Sgt. Tuberville ABCH Offering, EUREKA BAPTIST CHURCH, 195 Eureka Church Road, Franklin, Alabama 36444 before November 2, 2014.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SGT Charles Wayne Turberville, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
