Thank You

Dear Sp4 Charles Thompson, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is another summer. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it still needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

My Friend

Chuck and I met on our first day of Basic Training at Fort Bliss Texas when Chuck was assigned the bunk over the top of mine. We became good friends immediately. After Basic we were sent to the same unit for AIT at Tiger-Land Fort Polk Louisiana. Our final destination together was Vietnam. We were both sent to the First Infantry Division (The Big Red 1) at DiAn Vietnam however there we were sent to different companies. We stayed in touch by writing each other. Then one day I had a letter that I had written Chuck returned to me with a Red Stamp on it that said "Deceased". Chuck had joined the Army and he volunteered to go to Vietnam to stop his older brother from having to go to Vietnam. That decision cost my dear friend his life. Rest in peace my Brother. You are not forgotten.
