SSG Tegtmeier was a man of few words but his actions inspired those he lead. He was a one of my squad leaders at the time I was the platoon leader of the second platoon of Company A 1st Battalion 12th Infantry 4th Infantry Division. He never complained, he just completed the mission that he was assigned. I had left country in September 1969 and I did not hear of his death until many years later. I wish his family and all who knew him well. He will always be remembered as an outstanding soldier and leader.

Dear SSgt La Vern Tegtmeier, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Monday was Independence Day. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it still needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.
