Final Mission of MSGT Floyd Studer Jr.

MSGT Floyd Studer Jr. served with the USAF 1173rd Special Activities Squadron, Military Assistance Advisory Group, Vietnam (MAAGV) in Bangkok, Thailand. On August 15, 1961, MSGT Studer was killed in a Marine Corps helicopter accident (probably a HUS-1/UH-34D Seahorse). He was not a crew member at the time, but part of a MAAG training mission. On this particular mission, the helicopter went down approximately 100 miles northeast of Bangkok and 35 miles north of Korat RTAFB. The helicopter crash killed two passengers and injured three others. Killed were Royal Thai CAPT Prasit Yamachutin and MSGT Studer. The Marine air crew, pilot 1LT William Rever Jr., co-pilot 1LT Gary D. Johnson, and crew chief SGT Roland K. McCall, were injured in the crash. Remembering An American Hero

Dear MSGT Floyd Studer, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
