Comrades

My father served with Pete in WWII and Pete went back in and was in touch with my Dad, I shipped out as a Marine and while in country I received a letter from Pete basically encouraging me to do well and to get back home asap. He included some photos of he and a chopper. We were supposed to meet up to talk but I never got the chance. When I returned home my Dad took me to meet his wife and children. It was a very heavy burden for me to be alive and yet he was missing and here were all these people he loved an loved him. Surviviors guilt is real.

Remembering an American Hero

Dear COL Peter Joseph Stewart, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say 'thank you'; for America, for those who love you, and for the Sgt's son.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter (son of Sgt. Ardon William Carter, 101st Airborne, February 4, 1966, South Vietnam)

LTCOL Stewart, You are not forgotten.

LTCOL Stewart, POWMIA March 15, 1966. I still wear his bracelet as a reminder of his great sacrifice. May God bless LTCOL Stewart and his family and keep them. Please read “An Enormous Crime: The Definitive Account of American POWs Abandoned I Southeast Asia” Author: Elizabeth A. Stewart. It is revealing.

Not forgotten

I too wore your POW Bracelet in the 70's.
Just learned today you were born in 1918. You were 48 years old when you became MIA. Today you would be in your mid 90's.
The years have past quickly, but you will always be remembered.

Colonel Stewart's POWMIA Bracelet

I noticed that someone stated that he or she wore Colonel Stewart's bracelet. I too wore a bracelet with his name on it and still have it to this day. I did not choose the name I wanted on my bracelet, it was random. I was not aware there was more than one in existence for the soldiers, but since I purchased it through the Red Cross (believe it was the Red Cross) as a 'fund raising' project during the war, it is conceivable that there has been more than one in existence. I learned of the virtual wall and located his name and information, more curious than anything to learn his fate. I held the bracelet in my hand as I read his information and felt an overwhelming connection to this brave man that I never knew. May God bless this man's memory and also bless his family.
