Dear PFC Donald Henry Stephens, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

I did not know Donald Henry Stephens but he was my brother. Donald and I chewed the same dirt. donald and I ate c-rats. Donald and I carried an M-16 and had to fight the NVA and the VC.
Donald, I will see and meet you one day, it will be my pleasure to meet a fellow Vietnam Veteran. You didn't give your life just for America and the Vietnamese but you also gave your life for me. I love you my brother.

I did not get a chance to know my uncle. This is what imformation I have on him.
Award of the Bronze Star Medal(First Oak Leaf Cluster)
For heroism not involving participation in serial flight, inconnection with military opertions against a hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam: On this date, Private First Class Stephens was serving as a rifleman with his unit during a company-minus reconnaissance in force operation approximately three kilometers south of DI AN. As the friendly force was proceeding through a rice field, it was suddenly sudjected to intense hostile small arms, automatic weapons, and rocket fire.
Private First Class Stephens immediately assumed an advantageous position and began placing rapid fire and accurate fire on the insurgents. Although fully exposed to the hail of hostile rounds, he continued to direct heavy fire at the enemy untill he noticed a wounded comrade lying in the open. Private First Class Stephens ran to the injured man and quickly administered first aid. As enemy fire struck all about him, he began carrying he casualty to a secure rear area. At this time Private First Class Stephens was mortally wounded by a enemy rocket round which impacted near him. The example of selfless courage and initiative he gave his comrades inspired them to fight vigorously untill the insurgents were repelled. Private First Class Stephens' outstanding display of aggressiveness, devotion to duty, and personal bravery is in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service an reflects great credit upon himself, the 1st Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
Date of Casualty: Sunday June 16th 1968
Private First Class Stephens was living in Lilesville North Carolina at the time he went into service. He will never be forgotton!!!!!!
