Think of you often
John was my step Brother. I remember him fondly, even though he was 11 years older than me. It really hurt when he was killed in Vietnam.

A guiding hand
My family and I were visiting D.C. For the first time and my son randomly chose a name to do a rubbing of. This is the gentleman he chose. When I got back to our room, I found this information and couldn't believe what I saw. This fallen hero was from just a few miles from our home. My son also placed flags on the gravesites at the cemetery where PFC Stashonsky is buried with his Boy Scout troop. I truly believe that a hand guided my son to that choice, and that same power is watching over the memory of this man that answered the call. May God always watch org him.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear PFC John Ray Stashonsky, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
