So long ago almost seems like yesterday

I remember Calvin as a great kind person who was a close friend with Charles Lose in Vietnam. Those two used to laugh and kid around at An Khe 1/7th Cav before Ia Drang Valley where Calvin lost his life.

Awarded Silver Star for Gallantry in Action that cost him His Life...Medical NCO....

He was a U.S. Army medic with the 1st Cavalry Division. He died in the battle for Ia Drang. In addition to the Purple Heart noted on his headstone, he was also awarded the Silver Star.

"There were at least fifteen of our men, wounded and dead, out front," said Deal. "At this point, Specialist 5 Calvin Bouknight rose from cover, ran over, and began administering aid to the wounded. He succeeded in treating four or five of them, always by placing his body between the continuous sheets of heavy fire and the man he was treating. Bouknight was mortally wounded less than five minutes after he began performing his stunningly heroic act." Source: We Were Soldiers Once ... And Young, Harold G. Moore and Joseph L. Galloway
