Thank You
Dear Lcpl Melvin Smith, Thank you for your service as a Rifleman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Spring has begun, and it's Lent. Time moves quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Buck
My dear friend. Andry street 9th. ward New Orleans. While at Camp Pendleton for weapons training me, (U.S. Navy) prior to shoving off to the Nam hiking down the road near some Quonset huts on base someone called my name and that someone was my dear friend Buck. It was so nice to see him. Our schedules did not permit us time to hang out. He told me that he was about to ship out to the Nam also. This was in July of '67, we shook hands and said we'd see each other after we got back. I was poisoned in country and spent some time in the hospital. I had stopped getting letters from a mutual pen pal of ours. I wrote asking what was going on and she told me that Buck had been killed and that she had got a letter saying that I was KIA also... She said she was so hurt that both of us were gone, this was in December of '67... Buck was a spirited individual, I'll never forget him. He was a Marine.
