Till Death Do Us Part
Jerry was a new member of 2nd platoon, 2nd squad, 1st Battalion 5th Infantry (Mechanized) 25th Inf. Div. He was assigned to Track 22 (Double Duce) known as "Track of Fools".
Jerry went across a river with a friend to secure the other side while a bridge was laid so we could cross with the APCs. He was killed instantly when a BAR or other large weapon opened up on him as he moved into the brush. His buddy, another new guy, was wounded. Several of us crossed over and tried to help him, to no avail.
The evening before he was killed, we kidded him about the bad luck of writing on his flack jacket "Track of Fools, till Death do us Part".
Jerry was a great guy and used to talk about his brother's yellow 55 Chev and his Jeep. Sorry you didn't make it buddy. We haven't forgotten you.
