A Great Guy

Ernie and I went to school together and worked together at the IGA store. He was a sprited young man and I will never forget him.

34 years ago today

Ernie, It was 34 years ago today that we lost you, Bill, and Sgt. Warren. I wrote a note to Bill a few minutes ago and am trying to find the strength to finish this one to you. I was with you most of that short day. When You, I and another (whom I can not remember his name) was trying to find Sgt. Warren when we ran into trouble and that damn M16 was jammed. We got out of that mess only to run into more with the squad. You gave your life trying to help others. That was the kind of person and leader you were. The memory of you has been with me for all these years and will never leave my heart.
I remember your and Bill's plans when you got back to the world only to have them cut short. I hope your and Bill's family and friends have been able to survive their loss and I wish I could have done something in my lifetime to help them. The guilt that comes when we ask ourselves, why you and not me or someone else. No answer seems to come.
I hope someone from your family or your friends reads this and contacts me. I welcome the chance to speak with them.

I miss you and Bill
