Skibbe was a good Marine

He had a dry wit like me when I came to know David Skibbe at 2/26 in Vietnam. I enjoyed cracking jokes with him whenever I ran across him at 26th Marines. Lt.Col. 'Wild Bill' Drumright pulled him along with him to 1st Recon Bn. He lost his life while being hoisted onto a Sea Knight helicopter at night after being wounded...the jungle penetrator he straddled in the dark broke and he fell to the ground. A rescue attempt by a Capt. Don La Voy McVey a hour or so later resulted in the captain plunging to his death from a greater heighth due to the same type faulty jungle penetrator. Neither Marine's body was ever recovered...both men were heroes in my book and more should've been done to find them. Never forget them. I won't.

In honor

I wear a POW MIA braclet to honor you, and your memory.
People ask me about the bracelet, and then it also helps them
to remember all of the men and women who served in the Vietnam
war.
