Attack on LZ Peanuts - May 3, 1968

LZ Peanuts was an artillery fire support base located on a T-shaped hill three miles southeast of Khe Sanh Combat Base (KSCB) in Quang Tri Province, RVN. Peanuts was used by the U.S. 1st Cavalry Division during Operation Pegasus, the plan to relieve the Marines at KSCB. Pegasus officially ended on April 15, 1968. At 2:40 PM on May 3, 1968, Peanuts was hit by eleven rounds of enemy artillery fire. PFC George J. Singleton, an infantryman from A Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry, suffered fatal fragmentation wounds in the attack. My Friend

It is amazing how often I think about you and the love we shared for so short of a time. You were the kindest and most considerate person in my life. I remember the day you came to visit me at college before you left for the Army. It was a very short time after you had to leave us never to return.
