I remember

I was a Crew Cheif in 503 not far behind Larry. The previous helicopter had mortars landing ahead of them the next one behind. When Larry's helicopter started to land all were yelling ABORT, ABORT! The next round landed feet from his side of the helicopter he was zeroed in. Good guy was my door gunner often

Final Mission of SP4 Larry A. Simonson

On March 25, 1971, SP4 Larry A. Simonson was serving with the 173rd Assault Helicopter Company, 11th Combat Aviation Battalion on a mission in Laos as a door gunner on a UH-1 helicopter. While his aircraft was on the ground refueling, it came under enemy mortar fire. During the attack SP4 Simonson suffered fatal injuries. [Taken from facesfromthewall.com]
