Final Mission of SP4 Larry D. Boobar
On September 6, 1969, SP4 Larry D. Boobar was the right gunner on a M113 armored personal carrier (APC) with the C Troop, 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry. His unit was participating in a search and destroy mission at the Michelin Rubber Plantation west of Loc Ninh, Binh Long Province, RVN. After making contact with enemy elements in the plantation, his APC was maneuvering into position when it was hit by fragments from an enemy mortar that landed nearby. SP4 Boobar was fatally wounded in the attack. [Taken from the book American Warrior by J.C. Bahnsen Jr.]
