Remembering An American Hero
Dear SP4 Danny Jean Shores, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, Sir
Curt Carter

I have letters from Danny to Mom and Mom to Danny
I'm trying to locate someone in Danny's family so I can return these letters. I got them from a thrift store where apparently they had come from an estate sale. They are letters that Danny wrote to his family during the war up to the time of his death and letters his Mom wrote to him that apparently didn't make it. She got them back. If any one reading this can help me find the family please contact me.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

Thank you.
I am a senior at Gridley High School. I just wanted to say thank you for the sacrifice that you made. You had much of your life ahead of you and yet you gave up your existence for upcoming generations. I once heard that a man hasn’t died as long as he is remembered… I will remember you.

You will always be remembered
Dear Danny, I just want to thank you for your service during the war. You made a great sacrifice to put others in front of yourself, and for that you lost yours. This is one of the best sacrifices ever made and one that will never be forgotten. Many of you soldiers are loved and missed, but we are grateful and proud of what you did for this country. Thank you and may you rest in peace. Sincerely, Ashley
