Honor in your Name

I joined Patriot Guard Riders to escort the fallen home. Tomorrow I am assisting at the movable Vietnam Memorial in Kissimmee. I do this to honor your memory. Hope I make you proud.

My buddy Wayne G Scrimshaw

Wayne I think about you often my friend, especially on Memorial Day. We were seniors together at Lakeland High School and upon graduation we both joined the Marines on the buddy system. Our family had taken a short vacation before we were to report in Daytona Beach and my mom nearly lost her life. I got an emergency detention so you went ahead to boot camp without me. Then we lost track of each other. I went to Nam end of 1966 as radioman with 7th Marines on Hill 55. After 7 months med evaced to DaNang, Guam, Pensacola before medical discharge in March 1968. After I was home 4 months, my mom called and said I had a visitor to come home. I had heard while in Nam you had passed. But I walked into my living room and there you were sitting. I lost it. We spent next week together before you got Nam orders. I gave you couple pair of my jungle utilities and boots. Then you left to ship out. Months later news came of your passing. I've NEVER forgotten you Wayne. I miss you my friend. I always attend Memorial Day services each year in your remembrance. Been to the Wall in Washington and traced your name. Blessings to your wife and family. REST IN PEACE WAYNE. SEMPER FI. I love you brother.
