Thank You

Dear Sp4 Dave Scott, Thank you for your service as a Special Forces Qualified Infantryman. Your 54th anniversary is soon, sad. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Final Mission of SP4 Dave R. Scott

SP4 Dave R. Scott was a Special Forces Weapons Man serving with Detachment A-402, (4th Mobile Strike Force Command), D Company, 5th Special Forces Group. SP4 Scott was in charge of a group of Khmer Kampuchea Krom (KKK) Cambodians who he personally trained in weapons and mortars. On January 24, 1968, Scott was leading some of his men on a combat operation near his base camp of To Chau in Kien Giang Province, RVN, in support of a Regional Forces operation being led by U.S. MACV advisors. During the mission, the sister force made contact with a Viet Cong platoon occupying fortified positions on the crest of a mountain. Scott led his troops to reinforce the friendly force and directed the positioning of machine guns and recoilless rifles on the insurgents. During the hostile counterfire, Scott saw a comrade fall, and he raced through enemy fire to pull the seriously wounded man to safety. The sister unit, out of ammunition, sought to break contact and move down the mountain. Scott moved his machine gun to an exposed position to provide better fire support for their withdrawal. It was at this time he suffered a fatal chest wound. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for gallantry. Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 Dave Russell Scott, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
