Childhood Friend

I knew Jackie throughout elementary school. Because of the way that our names are spelled, he sat either next to me or behind me. We played in Little League together. I remember his wake. He was the most decent, honest person I've ever known. I think of you every day, Jackie.

Thank You

Dear Sp4 John Schmecker, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman with the 1st Cavalry. Tomorrow is your 55th anniversary (the date of this wall is wrong), sad. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Today is the first day of winter and is Christmas is soon. Time moves quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

THANK YOU

I never met you nor was I born when you died. I was visiting my mother and my brothers graves when I decided to take a walk around the cemetery and came upon your headstone. Your sacrifice is the reason why I walk in freedom today.
Thank you Jack

Remembering An American Hero

Dear SP4 John Leonard Schmecker, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
