I Will Speak Your Namr

I went with my father (a combat wounded VietNam veteran) to see the traveling wall in Washougal, WA in 2010. The first name he looked up was that of his friend Alvern. He was overcome with emotion and I could hear the pain in his voice as he said “I promised I’d bring him home.” That was the first time I can remember ever seeing my father cry. Now that he has passed due to complications from Agent Orange exposure, I will be the one to carry your name in my heart and ensure it will be spoken for generations to come. You will never be forgotten.

Thank You

Dear Lcpl Alvern Schlottman, Thank you for your service as an Antitank Assaultman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. It is the 4th and last week of Advent; Christmas is soon. Time moves quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage, guidance and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear LCPL Alvern Warren Schlottman, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
