I keep your memory alive, Garry, with a dress blue uniform in your hame and honor each year to a URI Army ROTC graduating senior. Again this year (2005) a new lieutenant, Kristine Hinds, receives "your" award and I'll ask her to remember you too - as will we all and forever. God Bless.

Missing you still...
The Cemetery
Sept.1969

My oldest brother, Garry.
He was 21, I am 11.
I'm the only girl in a family of 7.
I'm his little sister, spoiled and rotten,
but I was the apple of Garry's eyes.
He was MY HERO before he enlisted in the USMC.
I knew he was brave before he went to Viet Nam.
Caressing the flag blown by the breeze.
In my mind, loving the energy that lies beneath.
I didn't know it so well, but I do miss it
and wonder,
"Why?"

They announced in school today, that the Viet Nam war is over.
Is it? For who?!
Loving day of bright yellow sun
look down on me again sometime.
The thundering electric sky is at my head
once again.
If you've ever felt like me
look down on me again sometime.
I looked forward to his return
from our country's mistake,
going to foreign soil
and playing doctor
for sadistic minds.
Whoa- war
Slowly- stops
Altogether- always
raindrops rain from an inevitable
sky of grey.
They announced in school today, that the Viet Nam war is over.
For who?!

In Remembrance
You were a young 21 year old Marine 2nd Lt. when you gave your life in the Vietnam War. You were a proud to graduate from Ponagansett HS which is located in a town not far from mine. With your boots tied tight and your dogtags strewn over your neck, you went to Vietnam to fight for our nation. You received a purple heart in March of 1969, and died that June. All of your efforts are appreciated and you will never be forgotten. Thank you.

Memorial
I am working on a Vietnam project for my history class. We were assigned servicemen to research and I was given this name. I just want to offer my condolences for his death, and I realize he was very young when he died. Along with that, I wrote a poem about war in general. It is called "Seeing War"
All they see is war.
Our country wants more.
Looking over the ugly sight.
They see bloody battles and fights.
Stand up for your mother.
Protect your sisters and brothers.
More take a fall.
More and more are added to the wall.
All they see is war.
Our country wants more.
Looking over the ugly sight.
They see bloody battles and fights.
Stand up for your mother.
Protect your sisters and brothers.
More take a fall.
More and more are added to the wall.
