In Memory of Allen Bodin

I was born and raised in Centerville, Louisiana with Allen. I was 15 years old at the time of his tragedy. He and my older brother Billy Robicheaux were good friends. I remember Allen as always being very kind, quiet and shy. He was the baby of his family of Theophile and Alice Bodin. He had two brothers, Ronnie and Gerald, and a sister Patty. He was a very handsome guy. The thing I rememer the most about my brother and Allen is. One night, a few days before Allen was to leave to serve our country, my brother didn't come home until 6AM. Of course our whole house was in an uproar worring about where he could be, since he was always home by midnight. This was in late 1969, or early 1970. Finally Billy comes strolling in and my Parents asked where in the world had he been. We were worried sick about him. He told us that Allen had asked him if he would take him to visit some of their friends before he left. Time had just gotten away from them before they realized how late it had gotten. Well, to this day, we are all so very glad that my Brother did this favor for Allen, because that WAS the last time Allen saw any of them.
Our town being so small, everyone is like family. When Allen's Parents got the first news of their son's plane being shot down and he was missing, the whole town was devasted. We all shared in their pain. This devastation went on for almost a month before they received the news that his body had been found. It was an emotional time for us all. We felt so much saddness, but yet on the other had relief because the wondering and "what if's" were finally over and Allen would be on his way home to his final resting place.
Twenty-eight years have gone by now and it still hurts like it was yesterday. Such a wonderful person. With such a love for life and his family. A life that was ended too soon. He is missed and remembered by us all!
