Fighter Pilot at Last

My Dad flew B-29s from Guam in WWII. He was excited to fly the A-1E Skyraider--a fighter bomber. Why? Because, as he told me, every pilot wants to be a fighter pilot sometime. (I should add that the A-1 had the same Wright engine as the B-29.) He had his chance when they asked for experienced pilots for A-1Es--'Operation Palace Gate'--so he volunteered and went to Vietnam.

If I should die...remembrances for LTCOL. Lewis Merritt ROBINSON, USAF...who gave his last full measure of devotionin the service of our country!!!!!!!!...HE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.
