Closer than a brother

Jewell, we will never forget our brothers in the Nam. We had a special bond, with each other, that will never be forgotten. We had each others backs. We could always count on you. YOU were as close as a brother. You were a special person. We were young and innocent. We may have been kids when we first arrived in Viet Nam, but we were men of integrity after our first fire fight. We were their to help liberate the poor South Vietnamese and keep the South from the communist. See how poor Viet Nam is today. Jewell, I'am so glad God brought you into my life. You were a true friend, and you will always be a part of my life, never forgotten. I know your parents, especially your sister was very proud of you, and I know they loved you very much. I'am so sorry you did not make it home, to buy that new car your dad was going to get you. Jewell, I've changed. I have God in my life now, if you can beleive that, but I praise him daily, and I know you are in heaven directing our paths. It took me alot of years to forgive myself for coming home, not being there for you and the others, but I know I've been forgiven. One day I will be walking on the streets of gold with you by my side. I have a few pictures of Jewell if any of his family or old class mates of recon would like them. Please contact me. A Note To Blankenship

Jewell-
I've thought of you often in the last 30yrs, man. I don't quite know what to say here but that I remember your quiet, sincere disposition. And I remember knowing that I knew I could always count on you when it got really 'hairy'. And I remember that grin you had - warm, and friendly, a "knowing" kind of grin. Steely blue eyes - always could say alot with your eyes, man.
We went back out after the bastards, Jewell. We almost caught up with them...I heard em running thru the bush at one point. Couldn't find them. Somebody found part of their mortar, I think.
I am trying to locate some of your family. I want to tell them how brave your were, dude.
I got a call from Ringo once - hell, I think it was 1972 or somethin'. I never stayed in touch with him though. Nor with Lempke...Eisom...Mitchell. I wonder how everybody's doin.
I know that mortar might have had my name on it, man. You stayed back because of some problem? Foot...ankle? Somethin. I went out in your place. God, Jewell!

Thanks, man. I'll see ya.
-Lance
