Remembering An American Hero
Dear SFC Dencil Ray Blankenship, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter

United We Stand
Dear Sir,
As a student at Gridley High School and am currently working on an assignment in which I am leaving rememberances for the fallen soldiers of the war. I truly look up to you as a hero of this country and an inspiration to all the citizens here. I would like to share a poem with you that was printed on a card I recently received:
United we stand,
steadfast and tall,
Committed to peace,
and freedom to all,
For times like these
that try all our souls,
Can renew our faith
in ourselves and our goals.
Let's open our hearts
as our proud banners wave
O'er the land of the free
and the home of the brave.
Dencil, you made the ultimate sacrifice; so others could like in peace and freedom. You have made this country united in its efforts and filled the hearts of its people with pride. Your life and commitment to this country will never be forgotten.
