Memories of a Kind Young Man
I was a little girl of 9-10 living in Worms, Germany, where my father Mike Macalos was stationed with the U.S. Army. Paul was 17 and his father was also stationed in Germany at another base. Our parents were friends and I have memories of a time when Paul's family visited us in Worms. I was just an annoying little tag-a-long, but I remember how friendly and smiling Paul was, how willing he was to hang with an annoying little girl for those few hours. He brought along a couple of 45's and spun them on my portable record player. I can still see him dancing to "Groovin'" by the Rascals and "Chain of Fools" by Aretha. To this day I am incredibly moved to sadness when I hear these songs. My heart aches for the years he never knew and the emptiness his death brought to his family. This was a good man who left us much too soon. I pray that he is dancing with Christ now and one day we will meet again. May God bless the Ramos family (Josie, I still remember you) if you come across this post.

Thank You
Dear Sgt Paul Ramos, Thank you for your service as an Infantryman. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Independence Day just passed. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

Dear Paul...
I was so moved yesterday when I visited the traveling wall here in Gardiner Maine; I have not yet had the opportunity to visit the real wall in DC. I had heard that you died in Vietnam but had no details.. So we looked you up and made a rubbing of your name. I only learned the specifics of your death after I went home and Googled.
Since our names were close alphabetically, we were often seated near each other in class and I will always remember your quiet demeanor and beautiful smile.. A very nice young man..So sad that you didn't live past 20 years.. so many missed opportunities. Just wanted you to know that I have been thinking of you and remembering... Ann Pratt
