Looking for Janet or Mark Porterfield

I did not know Chuck. His wife, Janet, and I became fast friends in the fall of 1968. Our husbands died within 2 weeks of each other and we met at El Toro Marine Base. I would like to reconnect with Janet and their son, Mark.

the hig brother i wish i had known better

You came to visit before you shipped off and wore your uniform to my school's Christmas program I was so proud I almost burst. I wish i had gotten to know you better. I remember the packages you sent from overseas.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear Captain Charles Wilbu Porterfield, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, Sir

Curt Carter
