A full-blooded Kiowa Indian

he was a career army serviceman

who enlisted in World War II

and was the recipient of the

following military decorations and service medals

SILVER STAR with Oak Leaf Cluster

PURPLE HEART with two Oak Leaf Clusters

ARMY GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL with 8 Bronze Knots

AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL ( WW II )

AMERICAN CAMPAIGN SERVICE MEDAL ( WW II )

EUROPEAN - AFRICAN - MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL ( WW II )

WORLD WAR II VICTORY MEDAL

ARMY OF OCCUPATION MEDAL ( WW II )

NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL

KOREAN SERVICE MEDAL

VIETNAM SERVICE MEDAL

UNITED NATIONS KOREA SERVICE MEDAL

and he was entitled to wear the

COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE

with two stars denoting

participation in three wars


He was killed attempting to rescue

his Battalion Commander and his staff

from an overwhelming enemy assault

in the Battle of Loc Ninh when he

was hit and killed instantly by

a rocket propelled grenade


Four of his sons served in uniform

during the Vietnam Era and his

grandson has spent the last 15 years

wearing the uniform of the

United States Marine Corps

and has seen service in Iraq
