Lenny was a very good friend of ours. When he was young his grandmother looked after him and they lived around the corner from our house in New Bedford, MA. Lenny would sometimes come over to see my brother Joe and I and we would go on hikes to the local parks or to see his mom and dad. The last time I saw Lenny was when I was home on Navy leave. Lenny explained that he had just joined the Marines. We were at a local diner and he asked me for a lift to nearby Acushnet where his dad lived. As we rode he told me that he had always wanted to be a Marine.
The next time I would see Lenny's name was in the Stars & Stripes after I reported to my ship the USS Wedderburn in 1967. He had been killed. Lenny will always be in our thoughts and prayers as a hero.
Lenny, you will never be forgotten! May God keep you in his care.

My Friend

I was with Leo in his last battle. He was one of my very best friends. I can't believe I found this web site. I was with Fox 2/3 and was hit May 9th off 881 at KheSanh. My Love and Respect to Leo's family he was one hell of a Marine and one hell of a Man!
Marines Prayer:
When this life is over
to Saint Peter I will tell
One more Marine Reporting Sir
I served my time in Hell

Semper Fi Leo, I still think of you all the time.

For Leonard Jr. Picanso

My name is Kristen Stabile, and I am participating in the "Put a Face with a Name" project in my Shaping class. I chose your son, Leonard, to be my designated individual to report on. Through this process, I have written a biography with a picture on your son and come Wednesday, I will be doing an actual wall-rubbing at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in DC. I'm sure your son was a fine boy, and he, amongst many others, will be remebered in our hearts as one of our Vietnam Heroes.

Never Forgotten

FOREVER REMEMBERED

"If you are able, save for them a place inside of you....and save one backward glance when you are leaving for the places they can no longer go.....Be not ashamed to say you loved them....
Take what they have left and what they have taught you with their dying and keep it with your own....And in that time when men decide and feel safe to call the war insane, take one moment to embrace those gentle heroes you left behind...."

Quote from a letter home by Maj. Michael Davis O'Donnell
KIA 24 March 1970. Distinguished Flying Cross: Shot down and Killed while attempting to rescue 8 fellow soldiers surrounded by attacking enemy forces.

We Nam Brothers pause to give a backward glance, and post this remembrance to you, one of the gentle heroes lost to the War in Vietnam:

Slip off that pack. Set it down by the crooked trail. Drop your steel pot alongside. Shed those magazine-ladened bandoliers away from your sweat-soaked shirt. Lay that silent weapon down and step out of the heat. Feel the soothing cool breeze right down to your soul ... and rest forever in the shade of our love, brother.

From your Nam-Band-Of-Brothers
