Remembering An American Hero

Dear Captain Jack Warren Phillips, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter

If I should die...remembrances for CAPT.Jack Warren PHILLIPS, USMC...who made the ultimate sacrifice

If I should die, and leave you here awhile, be not like others, sore undone, who keep long vigils by the silent dust, and weep...for MY sake, turn again to life, and smile...Nerving thy heart, and trembling hand to do something to comfort other hearts than thine...Complete these dear, unfinished tasks of mine...and I, perchance, may therein comfort you.

Last Words of a brave Marine

I was Maj. Phillips radio operator the night he was killed. He was a great officer and a brave American. I think of his example often and am still inspired by him to this day. He spoke the last words of his life to me that night.

A son remembers!

Like many, I saw the iron warrior, a man of impeccable character and infinite ability. He will always be my hero, as he is to a grandson who knows him only through the memories of those left behind. But unlike many, I will always be the little boy who saw the gentle heart underneath. From a son who misses his dad.

Class of '59, USNA, 13th Company

Most of us from the 13th Company think you would have become the Commandant of the Marine Corps, you were that good. A friend to all, tough, strong, and a leader of men without peer. We miss you dearly. God bless and keep you!
