he died trying to save my life
I was the medic for George's platoon. We had been in country 13 days. It was our first time outside the perimeter. The point man was the first to get shot. I was second when I went to aide him. I was seriously wounded and couldn't even help myself since I was shot several times in the back. A few hours later, during the fire fight, George Binko who I considered my closest friend in the platoon crawled up to me to offer help and put my helmet back on. While in the process of helping me, he was shot once in the head. His head fell onto my chest and later I had to push his lifeless body off of me. He died trying to save my life.

DEAR PFC GEORGE BINKO,
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AS AN AIRBORNE QUALIFIED INFANTRYMAN. IT HAS BEEN FAR TOO LONG FOR ALL OF YOU TO HAVE BEEN GONE. WE APPRECIATE ALL YOU HAVE DONE, AND YOUR SACRIFICE. WATCH OVER THE U.S.A., IT STILL NEEDS YOUR COURAGE.. GOD BLESS YOU. MAY THE ANGELS BE AT YOUR SIDE. REST IN PEACE. MANY OF US HAVE BEGUN OUR JOURNEY TO EASTER. YOU ARE ALL IN OUR PRAYERS.
AND, HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY IN HEAVEN TOO.

Remembering An American Hero
Dear PFC George Binko, sir
As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.
May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.
With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir
Curt Carter
