Remembering you today, Carl.

We went through Boot Camp at P.I. and AIT at Camp Geiger together. In Country you went to 3/5 and I went to 1/1. In honoring your sacrifice, Carl, and praying for your family and hometown friends, I am posting part of a "Prayer for Veterans", author unknown: "Almighty God, in every age you call certain persons to defend the human family from oppression, tyranny, and evil. Today we revere all our veterans: those who rest in honored glory, those who still suffer from the wounds of war.... O God, thank you for the selfless sacrifice of these veterans and of their families. Help us to remember them, to pray for them, and to care for them. Please bring all our departed veterans into your Kingdom, and console their families with your unfailing love. Please heal our wounded veterans through the power of your Holy Spirit.... Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Remembering An American Hero

Dear PFC Carl Edward Packard Jr, sir

As an American, I would like to thank you for your service and for your sacrifice made on behalf of our wonderful country. The youth of today could gain much by learning of heroes such as yourself, men and women whose courage and heart can never be questioned.

May God allow you to read this, and may He allow me to someday shake your hand when I get to Heaven to personally thank you. May he also allow my father to find you and shake your hand now to say thank you; for America, and for those who love you.

With respect, and the best salute a civilian can muster for you, Sir

Curt Carter
