Miss you

PFC Richard Lee Otte was my uncle. He was the only son of Ida and Leonard Otte, and brother of my mother, Barbara Thieleke. He was raised on the family farm, knowing that it was to be his one day. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Lena, Illinois. I was only nine when Dick was killed, but think about him every day. He was a kind, intelligent young man, who had a rich life ahead. He was fun, and adventurous, which perhaps prompted him to enlist in the Marine Corps, to fulfill his obligation to his country. He was so sharp in his full dress uniform. We were very proud of him. He sent many letters detailing the ravages of war. We never dreamed that he would be one of them. This is my testimony to him, we will never forget the sacrifice made, and will always be grateful for the time we had with him. Kimberly A. Thieleke, Kennesaw, GA
