War hero, left no one behind.
So glad we finally brought you back Stateside.

As a fellow Vietnam veteran 1968-69, I thank you for your service and am grateful in the belief you are safe in Gods loving arms.

Major Michael Davis O'Donnell was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroism and extraordinary achievement while engaged in aerial flight. He served as a Rotary Wing Aviation Unit Commander and was assigned to the 170TH AHC, 52ND AVN BN, 17TH AVN GROUP, 1ST AVIATION BDE.

Dear Maj. Michael O'Donnell, Thank you for your service as a Rotary Wing Aviation Unit Commander - Helicopter Pilot. I am glad you were identified in 2001, WELCOME HOME. Saying thank you isn't enough, but it is from the heart. Yesterday was Valentine’s Day and today is Presidents’ Day. Time passes quickly. Please watch over America, it stills needs your strength, courage and faithfulness, especially now. Rest in peace with the angels.

I went to UW-Whitewater with Mike.. Mike and his friend , Eric Renner, had a flk singing duo at school. The day JFK was assassinated, the 3 of us were together in the Student Union when it came on TV. We watched in shock. Mike went back to his room and wrote a song called "Where were you?" All about remembering where you were when it happened. He and some of his friends piled in a car and drove straight thru to DC for JFK's funeral. Mike's blood was always red, white and blue--and he gave every drop of it in Nam trying to rescues troops pinned down by the VC. He took his helicopter in against orders to make one last attempt to get the troops out and his bird got shot out of the air and all aboard were lost. A true hero.
